Montalto Uffago owes its name to the unity of Italy, when it was decided to recuperate the antique name of the destroyed city of 'Aufugum'. The city, resting between five hills and surrounded by profuse Mediterranean vegetation, has a great strategic position much appreciated by the population over the decades. The historic centre is cherished with the presence of churches and monuments amongst which we find the Bell Tower, witness of a complex pre-existence known as 'Castle Neso' in the XIV century.
Of equal importance is the monument to Ruggiero Leoncavallo, illustrious musician, to which memory the town organise an important festival.
