Rende is the city of two souls with its sixteenth century town overlooked by the monumental Norman Castle, the now town hall.
The village conserves art and culture, but recently has witnessed a progressive city plan development in conjunction with a great cultural ferment due to the University of Calabria, one of the most attended in the south. Rich in churches and Basilicas, we recommend the Santa Maria Maggiore church built in the XII century and the Maria Santissima di Costantinopoli sanctuary, soul of the historic centre. Recently built is the San Carlo Borromeo church whose huge and modern structure is well inserted in the new district of the village.
Rende has many museums where exhibitions, spectacles and meetings are held. Among the most important we suggest the Civic Museum of the Folklore, created thanks to the advice of the famous anthropologist Raffaele Lombardi Satriani; it collects direct evidence of the ancient culture of the Calabria Citeriore.
